Dr.
Kathy Coutinho is your fellow local trail runner/mtn. biker who
continually strives to help our athletic community to Always Keep Moving
Forward. Soft (muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve) and hard (bone, joint)
tissue injury is all too often diagnosed with the side warning- STOP
TRAINING, the psychological kiss of death to any devoted athlete. Dr.
Kathy will RARELY utter these words, but instead find options to help
keep the body fit and healthy while simultaneously providing
chiropractic and motion based care to proactively speed up healing.
Staying active and healing quickly is as vital for the body as it is for
the mind in these athletic individuals.
Dr. Kathy is a board certified sports Chiropractor who specializes in
the movement based soft tissue massage technique called Active Release
Technique, or ART. She is also licensed in Applied Kinesiology. Dr.
Kathy graduated from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland,
Oregon, in March 1997, days before running her first marathon in
Vancouver BC. She started working as an associate Chiropractor in this
very office a month later, working for 2 years before landing the
opportunity to live life to the fullest and starting her own business
called Positively Chiropractic. (In other words, to entertain the life
stress of a different beast!) To date, it has been an incredible 20 year
journey as an entrepreneur.
Locally, Dr. Kathy has been named Business Owner of the Year by the
Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce in 2009, was an active member of
a group of community leaders called BNI for 20 years including holding
various positions such as President and Visitor host, and to date is a
major sponsor to our fantastic race organization in our community called
EX2 Adventures. Dr. Kathy and her staff of providers offer free first
aid, chiropractic, massage therapy, ART, and any care that is needed, to
all the people involved in each of the 20 or so annual trail based
races.
Personally, Dr. Kathy’s passion is treating people, whether young or
old, who are ready to embark on an active lifestyle as they heal from
injury or are already athletic in nature. Movement is the key to life,
enhancing circulation of your oxygen rich blood to sites of injuries and
while strengthening our incredible bodies. If you have a static
lifestyle, you will have static blood flow and slow to heal injuries.
Dr. Kathy herself embodies movement as a lifestyle, as she has qualified
for the Boston Marathon and competed around the world in off road
triathlon called XTERRA for well over 10 years, from 2000 to around
2012. She earned a World Championship title in 2010 in XTERRA Maui, in
the last World Championship held on the most awesome technical trails up
and over the Haleakala volcano! Racing XTERRA has since taken a back
burner to coaching basketball for her 2 young daughters and their
amazing teams, but tri-training is still a priority for her own
emotional, spiritual and physical health.
Dr. Kathy wants you to embrace her personal and
professional mantra as a part of YOUR lifestyle and to ALWAYS KEEP
MOVING FORWARD.
