How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic works because the human body works. Our bodies are self healing, self maintaining and self regulating: in part due to the relationship between the nervous system and the spine. Millions of instructions flow from your brain, down the spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue. Signals sent back to the brain along the same path carry information necessary for smooth operation. Improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine, called subluxation, can interfere with this vital exchange by irritating nerves and compromising the function of affected organs and tissues. Specific Chiropractic adjustments can address these areas of restriction and help improve mind/body communications.
The Chiropractor is not concerned with masking symptoms or medicating pain: the goal of the chiropractor is to insure that we maintain alignment and restore motion so natural healing and vital living can continue.
What Is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is a misalignment of one bone in relationship with another. Chiropractors usually use the term to refer to vertebral misalignment in the spinal column, due to their relative importance to the central nervous system.
How Do Chiropractors Correct Subluxations?
Unlike any other health provider, chiropractors develops sensitive skills that enable them to feel and correct imbalances in the spine. They perform physical examination, orthopedic and neurological tests, motion palpation, and sometimes radiographic study to determine a general diagnosis. If additional study is needed, they may order MRI or CT scan. What follows is unique: the chiropractor evaluates the spine through gentle touch. (S)he identifies areas of subluxation that can be tense or tender in contrast to surrounding healthy tissue. The correction of the subluxation is done through gentle spinal adjustment. A specific impulse is applied to the misaligned vertebra, often accompanied by a feeling of relief. Treatment is efficient, pleasant, non-invasive and more affordable than drugs or surgery.
Treatment styles may differ slightly from one chiropractor to another. Dr. Jyringi uses a combination of Applied Kinesiology, Sacral-Occipital Technique and Diversified when correcting subluxations. Support therapy at this office may also include exercise instructions and/or rehabilitation techniques, nutritional support, and low force techniques that work directly with the softer tissues of the body.
